Fletcher Hills Property Management, Straddling El Cajon and La Mesa

Ed Fletcher, a "Colonel" by California National Guard appointment and one of San Diego's most prolific early land developers, laid out Fletcher Hills in 1927 and 1928 as part of a career that also produced Grossmont, Casa de Oro-Mount Helix, and Fletcher Parkway in La Mesa. Fletcher's larger legacy was water: in 1910 he and businessman James A. Murray bought the San Diego Flume Company and renamed it the Cuyamaca Water Company, later helping build the San Vicente Dam and Reservoir and Lake Hodges. That infrastructure work underwrote the East County growth that eventually filled in the neighborhood bearing his name.

Because Fletcher Hills sits across the El Cajon-La Mesa line, the neighborhood is served by two different elementary districts depending on the exact address: Cajon Valley Union on the El Cajon side, and the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District on the La Mesa side, which runs its own Fletcher Hills Elementary School named for the neighborhood itself. Both feed into the Grossmont Union High School District for high school. Owners need a manager who tracks which district applies to a given property, since that detail matters to the family tenants who make up much of Fletcher Hills' rental demand.

The Fletcher Hills themselves, a fold of the Peninsular Ranges rising between El Cajon and La Mesa, give the neighborhood its rolling topography and, for many properties, a view lot advantage over flatter parts of both cities.
