The Windansea surf shack, built in 1947 from palm fronds by local surfers including Woody Ekstrom, Fred Kenyon, and Don Okey, was designated a historic landmark by the San Diego Historical Resources Board in 1998 and has been rebuilt by the community after storm damage more than once, most recently in 2016.
